Driving Around Mount Rainier
Few things in the Pacific Northwest are more exciting, and yet relaxing, than driving around Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. The well-maintained main roads wind you through spectacular vistas and offer countless opportunities to pull over for a hike or a picnic.
These photos are taken while taking a long loop around the mountain during my “Trail of Trails” tour in September 2021: Washington Highway 161 west of the park, then the National Park Highway (which inside the park is referred to as the Paradise Road / Paradise Valley Road), then The Stevens Canyon Road (which closes in winter), then Washington Highway 123 east of the park, and then finally to Washington Highway 410 across the north to complete the loop. The whole experience is about an hour and a half from downtown Tacoma.
See all my Tacoma posts.
Nice person in Portland, Oregon, and beyond.
