Garden District, New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is the great jewel of Louisiana, and the Garden District (along with the adjacent Lower Garden District) has always been one of my favorite parts of the city. There, vast antebellum mansions sit between massive live oak trees, and color is everywhere. The city is alive there as well, with construction trucks on every single street in a frenetic renovation spree; after the city-wide devastation of Hurricane Katrina, wealthy residents have flocked to the so-called "Sliver by the River," meaning those older parts of town like the Garden District that were built on less flood-prone land along the Mississippi. In March 2018 I visited the area for a few days to see old friends, and to stroll happily among the gorgeous, funky architecture. I took along my 50mm 1.4 lens, which I rarely use, in order to force myself to shoot with it. A fun challenge.

Nice person in Portland, Oregon, and beyond.
