Washington, DC, June 2019

We walked miles and miles around the city center from this museum to that, from this fun spot to that. I really enjoyed myself, particularly attracted to and energized by the intellectual vibe in the air, thick like the humidity.

Museum of Glass, Tacoma

I visited the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, in June 2017. It not only has exhibits of gorgeous glass art, but it also has a very large glassblowing studio where you can watch world-class artists in residence...

Hotel Murano, Tacoma, June 2017

My home away from home whenever I find myself in Tacoma, Washington, on business seems to be the Hotel Murano; my June 2017 stay is the fifth or sixth time I've been there. It's a really nice place and right in the heart of Tacoma's great little downtown...

The Painted Cats of Miami, Arizona

Miami (pronounced "My Amma"), Arizona, sits nestled at the edge of the Pinal Mountains and beneath a massive copper mine. It's a quiet, dusty town, so small you could blink and miss it. But those are some of the best towns around, and I found if you pull off the main road, Route 60 (see my previous blog post on this drive), there is a charming strip of antique stores along with a couple bars and a couple restaurants. Quiet, dusty, small, but with some flair. You will find, if you take the time to stop, that the town is covered in public art. Of particular delight to me were the countless cat paintings found on street corners, shop fronts, nooks and crannies.

Elizabet Cerviño: Stand Up or Change Posture, Jan 2016

At the Hoffman Gallery January 2016, Cuban performance artist Elizabet Cerviño presented her piece: Stand Up or Change Posture (Llanto de la Ceremonia) as part of the Intersecciones: Havana/Portland art project at Lewis & Clark.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice

In December 2015, I traveled to Venice, Italy, for a few shoots and a lot of R&R. There was so much to see that there wasn't much I meant to twice; the Peggy Guggenheim Collection on the Grand Canal, however, was such a place. (If I had time, I'd have had a third visit!) Maria Rita Cerilli, their ‎Officer for Press and Social Media, met with us and took us up on their roof, with its fabulous views.  Such a terrific little museum, with world-class artists like Picasso and Pollock, in a terrific little setting.

San Francisco, 11/15: Set 2, De Young Museum

In November 2015 I traveled to San Francisco, California, for a couple of shoots, and to attend the An Event Apart conference. On a free morning, I went to Golden Gate park to visit the de Young art museum with its gorgeous copper facade and fun observation deck.
