A Drive to the Columbia Gorge and Hood River, Oregon

A foggy morning gave way to a sunny afternoon as Elaine and I took a drive from Portland up the Columbia Gorge to Hood River for lunch in July 2019. Along the way we stopped at a couple waterfalls and then bought some apple butter at Draper Girls Country Farm in Parkdale.

Even when it was foggy, it was a bright and colorful day, so I tried to capture that with my camera settings really popping the colors.

Coyote Wall, Washington, April 2016

Last April I went hiking with Meghan Sinnott and four-legged friends, Maddy and Journey, up Coyote Wall at the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge in Washington. The outing offered a great chance to try out my newly purchased Velvet 56 lens from Portland's own Lens Baby; the lens can do some really fun "velvety" bokah tricks (particularly along the frame edges) and looks nice whether you're shooting landscapes, portraits, or macros...

Columbia River Gorge, Sept 2016

In September I took Tiana Kai around the Columbia River Gorge to see lots of spectacular sights, including the Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint, the Vista House at Crown Point, Multnomah Falls, Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Horsetail Falls (and Upper Horsetail Falls), and Thunder Island at Cascade Locks. An excellent way to spend the day...

Elowah Falls, Oregon

In December 2014 my friend Merry and I hiked up to Elowah Falls in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge. As we walked up all was bitingly cold rain, and then the entire falls area for a hundred-yard radius was black ice. So crazy slippery...
