Northwest Coos County Beaches
In December 2018, Elaine Schimek and I visited Horsfall and Bastendorff beaches in northwest Coos County, Oregon. The weather had been forecast to be cold and rainy, but instead the day was mild and dry. The threat of rain hung in the air however and seems to have kept people from coming to the water; we had the beaches mostly to ourselves. I chose to edit the images in black and white to capture that December essence.
The terrain at both beaches is wide and flat, surrounded by large dunes where people were riding horses and OHVs (off-highway vehicles), including some of the biggest dune buggies I’ve ever seen. But they stayed far away within the dunes and never were a bother to us by the water.

Nice person in Portland, Oregon, and beyond.
