Ruins of Zeugma, Birecik Reservoir, Turkey
Written By Morgan Stone Grether
Near Gaziantep in southern Turkey is the Birecik reservoir along the River Euphrates. The waters covered the ancient town of Zeugma, whose famous mosaics were relocated to the Zeugma Mosaic Museum. During my Come See Turkey influencer trip, we took a delightful boat trip across the reservoir seeing not just the remains of submerged Zeugma, but also the ruins of the mighty cliffside fortress of Rumkale ("Roman Castle").
