Silver Falls State Park, Oregon

In August 2018, Elaine Schimek and I journeyed to Silver Falls State Park. To quote myself in a previous post: "It is a land of giant trees, lush fern forest floors, streams, creeks, and massive waterfalls (three of which you get to hike behind). There are several trails, but the main one, known as the Trail of Ten Falls, is a loop and just under nine miles long. Mostly the going is easy, and good for the whole family, young and old, with wide, beautifully maintained paths and railings along cliffs. This park is one of the great gems of Oregon, which is really saying something." On the day we visited the air started off almost chilly, a welcome respite from this otherwise sweltering summer. By the end we were warm, but since the park is in the Cascade foothills, the temperatures remained cooler than the valley below. If you are in the area, this park is truly a must-see.

Nice person in Portland, Oregon, and beyond.
