Diablo Lake is a spectacular reservoir that rests amid Washington’s Cascades mountains near the North Cascades National Park. I visited there during a February 2015 visit to Bellingham with friends Jess, Adoria, and Maya. The fog and mists created a surreal winter environment, which I loved, but I’ll need to return in summertime to compare.

We ended a packed day of fun in the Mount Rainier National Forest by driving through incredible scenery to our hotel, the Alpine Inn at Crystal Mountain. The room was pretty small, but I had my own bathroom, and hey, we closed the bar that night. One thing that is for certain: the location is spectacular. Plus, we were a short walk to a host of ski runs. I'd love to return in the wintertime.

In November 2015 I worked with Oregon's Mount Hood Territory (OMHT) to explore seven (and a half) lakes south of Mount Hood in 48 hours. This post is on North Fork Lake, a reservoir at the western edge of the Cascade Mountains, near Estacada, Oregon, and where the north fork of the Clackamas River splits off from the main.
